Welcome to School Colony, a digital learning platform designed to empower students, educators, and institutions across Cameroon. These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of School Colony’s website, mobile application, content, products, and services (collectively, the “Platform”).

Please read these Terms carefully. By registering, accessing, or using our Platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Platform.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account, accessing content, or using any features of the Platform, you confirm that you:

Are at least 13 years old (or have obtained verified parental or school consent if younger),
Have read, understood, and agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy,
Are legally authorized to enter into these Terms on behalf of yourself or your institution.

2. Description of Services

School Colony provides an online education platform that includes but is not limited to:

Hosting of educational courses and learning materials
Learning management tools (assignments, quizzes, grading, etc.)
Student performance tracking
Communication tools (forums, messaging, announcements)
Integration of multimedia, third-party resources, and e-learning content
Administration dashboards for schools, teachers, and educational institutions

The Platform may be accessed via web or mobile applications and is intended to support both formal education systems and independent learning.

3. Account Registration & Responsibilities

3.1 User Types

We provide access for various user roles:

Students: Individuals using the platform to learn or complete school-related activities
Teachers: Educators uploading and managing course content and assessments
Parents/Guardians: Supervisors of student accounts (especially for minors)
School Administrators: Institutional managers with access to broader school data
Guests: Users accessing limited content without creating an account

3.2 Accuracy of Information

You must provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and update it as needed. School Colony is not responsible for errors arising from false or outdated data.

3.3 Account Security

You are responsible for:

Keeping your login credentials confidential
Notifying us immediately of unauthorized access or breaches
Using a strong and unique password

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that breach security protocols.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Platform for lawful, educational purposes only. You must not:

Share offensive, abusive, or harmful content
Post content that is sexually explicit, discriminatory, or incites violence
Harass, impersonate, or stalk other users
Violate intellectual property rights
Attempt to hack, disrupt, or interfere with the platform’s integrity
Use bots or automated tools to access or scrape the platform
Upload malware, viruses, or harmful scripts
Misuse platform messaging to send spam or unauthorized solicitations

Violation of this section may result in immediate account suspension, data deletion, or legal action.

5. Content Ownership & Intellectual Property

5.1 School Colony Content

All content developed by School Colony—logos, branding, UI/UX, text, graphics, code—is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

You may not reproduce, distribute, or modify School Colony’s content without written permission.

5.2 User-Generated Content

Teachers and students may upload educational materials, assignments, and comments ("User Content").

By submitting content, you:

Retain ownership of your intellectual property
Grant School Colony a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, use, reproduce, and distribute your content for educational purposes only
Confirm that your content does not infringe upon the rights of others

We reserve the right to remove or moderate any content that violates these Terms or local laws.

6. Payments, Subscriptions & Refunds

6.1 Free and Paid Services

Some services on the platform may be free, while others may require subscription fees or one-time payments (e.g., for premium tools or school dashboards).

6.2 Billing

Payments are securely processed via authorized payment gateways. Users will be informed of any fees before purchase.

6.3 Refunds

Refund requests must be submitted within 7 days of payment and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. No refunds are issued for completed coursework or used services.

7. Termination & Suspension

We may suspend or terminate access to the platform without prior notice if:

You violate these Terms or applicable laws
Your account is inactive for a prolonged period
We are required to do so by law or regulatory authorities

Upon termination, your access to content, records, and user data may be permanently deleted unless legally required to retain it.

You may delete your account at any time via your profile settings or by contacting us at support@schoolcolony.cm.

8. Privacy & Data Protection

Your use of the Platform is also governed by our Privacy Policy. We adhere to:

Cameroon’s General Data Protection Regulations
MINESEC's ICT usage guidelines for schools
GDPR (for international best practices)
COPPA (for users under 13 years old)

9. Educational Institutions & School Agreements

If you are accessing the Platform on behalf of a school or institution:

You must ensure your use complies with local educational regulations
You are responsible for managing teacher, student, and parent access
You agree to oversee compliance with child safety and data protection rules

School Colony provides admin dashboards, reporting tools, and data export features to assist schools in meeting their compliance obligations.

10. Third-Party Links & Tools

The Platform may include integrations or links to external websites, services, or content (e.g., YouTube, Google Drive, EdTech tools). These are provided for convenience and do not constitute endorsement.

School Colony is not responsible for:

Content accuracy on third-party platforms
Data shared with or collected by external services
User interactions outside our Platform

Always review the terms of use and privacy policies of third-party services you access through our platform.

11. Platform Availability & Updates

While we strive for 24/7 uptime, we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may:

Perform routine maintenance or updates
Add, modify, or remove features without prior notice
Suspend access temporarily due to technical issues or legal compliance

We are not liable for any loss arising from downtime or content unavailability.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, School Colony, its staff, and partners are not liable for:

Loss of data, revenue, or business due to service interruptions
Content errors, delays, or omissions by users or third parties
Harm caused by unauthorized access or breaches, despite implemented safeguards
Any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages

Some jurisdictions may not allow these limitations, so they may not apply to you fully.

13. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless School Colony, its directors, employees, and partners from any claims, damages, or losses arising from:

Your use of the Platform
Violation of these Terms
Infringement of intellectual property or data privacy laws
Any user content you upload or share

14. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Cameroon, particularly as they relate to digital communication, data protection, and educational services. Any disputes shall be resolved by the competent courts of Cameroon.

15. Changes to the Terms

We may update these Terms periodically. Updates will be posted on this page with the “Last Updated” date revised. Continued use of the Platform after changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms.
